This issue of The McCullough Report will unpack a busy week in the COVID-19 news cycle and give you insight into what is being reported in the media, social media, and probably your friends and family concerning the viral outbreak and what it means for the individual, family, and our society. On Tuesday, April 13, the CDC and FDA announced a “pause” on the JNJ vaccine after 6 women ages 18-48 developed blood clots in the brain, one died, and one was hospitalized in serious condition. There had been 7 million people treated with the vaccine, and the overall death count with JNJ vaccination has not been tallied and reported yet by the CDC.

The majority of the 60 million Americans who have been vaccinated have received the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines. As of April 2, 2021, there were 56,869 safety events, including 2342 deaths reported by health care workers to the CDC. The majority of these deaths have occurred in the first three days from the time of injection. There has not been a review of these days by independent doctors who are not part of the mass vaccination program. As it stands now, the JNJ vaccine is paused in the US, and the AZ vaccine remains off 18 markets in Europe. This issue will further update you on the vaccine program and give some insight about the media, the “Trusted News Initiative,” and efforts by social medial to curb or scrub any information that would lead to vaccine hesitancy. Finally, we will finish up with the rapidly moving policy and legal implications of “marking” those vaccinated and those not and what that may mean to travel, employment, and life over the next several years.
